I was challenged by a more experienced musician to write something more personal about what causes me pain. I wrote about the conflict of the memories of an old relationship coming back to haunt me.

Sometimes it’s really painful to revisit these memories, but there can be comfort in imagining that you’d both manage to keep up appearances and put on a good spread if we really had to.

The person I’m singing about passed away before I finished the track, and I rewrote most of the lyrics to help me process why I felt so devastated.

There’s comfort to be felt when you realise that there was not necessarily a fundamental compatibility problem with that relationship, and that it was not a waste of time for either of you.

It’s just a part of growing up.
